Review Summary:

While finger-style guitar, which doesn’t use a pick, is certainly not uncommon in classical, folk, flamenco, and other musical genres, rarely if ever has anyone used this technique in jazz with such speed and dexterity as Giovanni. One thing I was repeatedly struck by while listening to this album was the incredible contrast between the intensity and awesome power of the playing and the soft warmth of the nylon string guitars’ timbre. Giovanni’s flying fingers and furious fretwork evoke a sound seldom heard before on this instrument to this degree. Impressive, to say the least!

イタリア・ナポリに生まれたジョバン・グイドは、８歳でギターを習い始める。

１９９１年７月、英国・ロンドン市立ギルドホール音楽演劇学校を卒業。

１９９２年、米国・ロサンジェルスに渡り、ハリウッドにあるギター音楽専門学校で学ぶ間、ジャズファンクトリオを結成。　ロサンジェルスにて、ジョバンはウェイン・ヘンダーソン・ジュニアに出会い、後に父親であるウェイン・ヘンダーソン・シニア（伝説的ジャズバンド「ジャズ・クルセイダーズ」のリーダー）に紹介される。

ジョバンはウェイン・ヘンダーソン＆ネクスト・クルセイドによるアルバム「スケッチ・オブ・ライフ」のレコーディングに参加。　１９９４年６月から１９９８年１１月の間、ジョバンはジャズ・クルセイダーズの正式メンバーとして世界各地で公演。

ノースシー・ジャズフェスティバル、ウィーン・ジャズフェスティバル、ウンブルア・ジャズフェスティバル、ポリ・ジャズフェスティバル、ニース・ジャズフェスティバル、モントルー・ジャズフェスティバル、セントルーシー・ジャズフェスティバル、パルヌ・ジャズフェスティバル、ブレコン・ジャズフェスティバル等はその内の一部である。

１９９８年、ジョバンはジャズ・クルセイダーズのアルバム「ブレイクン・ダ・ルールズ」にてリードギターリストを務める。

また、パッティ・オースティン、ロニー・ロウズ、ボビー・ライル、ジョン・ルシアン、ボビー・コールドウェル、アルフォンソ・ジョンソン、ジョン・ビーズリー、アンジェラ・ボフィル、トニー・セントジェームス、ビル・スタンウェイ、ネイト・フィリップス、ロブ・マリンズ、ウィルトン・フェルダー、リンレイ・マース、マリオ・カノンジェ、フランシス・ラスースなどの有名なジャズアーティストとの共演も数多くこなす。

１９９９年の９月、イタリア・ノヴァーラのＣ．Ｅ．Ｍ．音楽学校にてギター講師を務め、またマスタークラスやセミナーを指揮する。

２０００年６月１０日、モナコ国際ジャズソロリストコンクールにて、ジョバンは圧倒的票数によるベストソロリスト最優秀賞を受賞。　翌年２００１年２月には、同コンクールにてゲスト審査員を務める。

２００１年２月にジョバンはフランス・パリへと移り、ピアニストであるマリオ・カノンジェやベース奏者のリンレイ・マース、フランシス・ラスース、ベンジャミン・ヘノクらとライブプロジェクトを開始。

Giovan Guido comincio` a suonare la chitarra all'eta` di 8 anni.

A Luglio del 1991 si diploma alla Guildhall School of Music and Drama di Londra.

Nel 1992 va a Los Angeles e frequentando il Guitar Institute a Hollywood forma un trio jazz-funk.

Ed é a Los Angeles che fa conoscenza con Wayne Henderson (Jr) il quale lo presenta a suo padre Wayne Henderson (Senior), leader del legendario gruppo "Jazz Crusaders".

Nel 1993 Giovan registra nell'album di Wayne Henderson: "Sketches of Life".

Da giugno 1994 a Novembre 1998, Giovan fa parte dei Jazz Crusaders suonando in tournée in USA, Europa, Giappone e Cina, concerti che ebbero luogo citando alcune date a : Umbria Jazz, North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz a Vienne, Pori Jazz Festival, Nice Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, St. Lucie Jazz Festival, Parnu Jazz Festival, Long Beach Jazz Festival e Brecon Jazz Festival.

Nel 1998, Giovan Guido incide nell'album "Break'n da Rulz" dei Jazz Crusaders.

Altri artisti con cui Giovan ha suonato in concerti dal vivo, includono: Patty Austin, Ronnie Laws, Bobby Lyle, Jon Lucien, Bobby Caldwell, Alphonso Johnson, John Beasley, Angela Bofill, Rob Mullins, Nate Philips, Linley Marthe, Francis Lassus e Mario Canonge.

Born in Naples Italy Giovan Guido began playing guitar at the age of eight.

In July 1991, he graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

In 1992, he traveled to Los Angeles and while attending the Guitar Institute in Hollywood he formed a jazz-funk trio.

In Los Angeles he met Wayne Henderson (Jr) who later introduced him to his internationally famous father, Wayne Henderson (Senior), leader of the Jazz Crusaders.

Giovan went on to record with Wayne Henderson on his album "Sketches of Life" by Wayne Henderson and the Next Crusade.

From June 1994 to November 1998, Giovan became a permanent band member of the Jazz Crusaders, touring with the band in Europe, USA, Japan and China. Some of the performances include, but are not limited to: North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz a Vienne, Umbria Jazz, Pori Jazz Festival, Nice Jazz Festival Montreux Jazz Festival, St. Lucie Jazz Festival, Long Beach Jazz Festival, Parnu Jazz Festival, and the Brecon Jazz Festival.

In 1998, Giovan Guido played lead guitar in the album "Break'n da Rulz" by the Jazz Crusaders.
